Instructors of Record

Cheryl Coon

Cheryl holds a J.D., L.L.M. She is an attorney, instructor and author who researches, teaches and presents on using children's literature. She is the author of numerous articles and a monthly newsletter on children's fiction. Her book, Books to Grow With: A Guide to Using the Best Children's Fiction for Everyday Issues and Touch Challenges, is a comprehensive guide to over 500 books of children's fiction about key issues and concerns children face. In addition, Cheryl has presented on selecting and using children's fiction and on biliotherapy at many regional, national and international reading conferences.

Cheryl is the instructor of record for our Using Children's Literature to Teach Problem Solving and Reduce Classroom Conflict course.

Cynthia Cosgrave

Cynthia cosgrave began her teaching career in Massachusetts as an elementary teacher. She has taught in diverse settings and held a variety of teaching and administrative jobs that focus on ESL/Bilingual education. She has been an adjunct instructor for Portland State University, University of Idaho and California State University at Long Beach. Currently, Professor Cosgrave is on faculty in the Graduate School of Education at Lewis & Clark College, where she specializes in ESOL/Bilingual education.

Ginger Fink

Ginger holds a B.A. in English and French from the University of Alabama and an M.A. in Early Childhood Education from California State University, San Francisco. She has been a classroom teacher, training and technical assistant specialist with Region X Head Start, program coordinator, curriculum developer, family resource specialist and community college instructor. Much of her career was spent in Hawaii with Kamehameha Schools and with positions with the United States Army, Navy and Air Force in supervision, family support and training and development.

Lynn Reer, Ph.D.

Lynn Reer, Ph.D. taught English as a second language to children and to adults for many years. She has directed programs in Spain, Greece and Brazil, as well as in the United States, serving studetns frommany language backgrounds. Lynn has a deep background in communication styles across cultures which she brought to her work developing and coordinating Bilingual/WESL education for Western Oregon University and for Lewis & Clark College, Portland, Oregon. In addition, Lynn consults with school districts on the linguistic, cultural and academic aspects of working responsively with English Language Learners.

Sally Skelding

Sally holds a B.A. in literature, education and theater from Linfield College and an M.A. in Human Development from Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena, CA. She has had a long career as an early childhood educator and teacher educator. In addition to teaching children, she has directed early childhood programs, including the Marylhurst Early Childhood Center. Sally taught in the Early Childhood Program at Mt. Hood Community College for many years. She also worked as a trainer and coordinator for Region X Early Childhood Training Center at Portland State University.
