Getting Started FAQs

How do I log in to the program?

To log in as a new user: type in your name and password, using only letters and numbers. Click Save to set up a folder for your work. Name your folder and choose a location on your computer to save your folder. Be sure to make a note of your user name, password and your folder's name and location. Otherwise, you will not be able to access your saved work.

To log in as a returning user: just enter the name and password you used during your previous visit and locate the folder where you saved your documents. For a more detailed explanation of logging in, take the Quick Tour and click on the button for Logging In.

For a more detailed explanation of logging in, return to the Log In window that comes up when you insert the CD and click on Help.

What should I do if I forget my user name and password?

The computer doesn't remember this information for you. You will have to begin again, entering as a new user, creating a new user name, password and folder in which to save your work.

I know I entered the correct user name and password, but the computer doesn't recognize them. What's wrong?

You may have logged in on a different computer before, so your previous log in information is not stored on the computer you are using now. You need to go back to the same computer you used before. You can log in and continue working on that same OR copy your saved folder to the new computer you want to use. Then, when you log in as a returning user, you will need to tell the program where to find your saved folder on the new computer.

How do I figure out how to use the CD?

The easiest way to learn how to use the CD is to go to the Home Menu. You'll see icons in the lower left corner for the Progress Tracker and the Quick Tour. Print out and review the Progress Tracker and take a few minutes to go through the Quick Tour. If you need more help, review the Getting Started Checklisttt, located in the Help Center in For Learners.

How do I make the most of this interactive CD-ROM learning experience?

Take some time to go through the Suggestions for Expanding Your Learning in the Progress Tracker. Talk with someone else who is also using the CD about his or her experiences. Or start a discussion/study group with two to four other learners around some of the Further Questions in the Learning Log. Make sure you follow up with an instructor or supervisor if you have questions or concerns that this CD-ROM doesn't answer.

What if the program doesn't bring back my saved work?

If you logged in on a different computer than the one you originally used with InspireWorks!: see Question #3 above. Or, go back to the log in screen and check to see if you entered the program as a new user, instead of as a returning user. If you did, the program will try to set up a new log in file for you and won't be able to recognize your saved work from your previous session. You need to log in as a Returning User, using your previously enered name and password.

How do I make sure my work is saved?

Once you log in by entering a user name and password and creating a folder for your work, the program automatically saves your work each time you click the Done or Print button. All your responses to Reflect on it! questions, Action Plans, What I've Learned: Self0Assessment and Practice Your New Skills are located within the SkillBuilding Center. The program also makes a separate file for each activity you complete and saves it in your folder.

Can I print my work from the CD?

If you have logged in and created a user name and password, your work is saved and ready to print from the training Sessions or in the Learning Log. Your computer must be connected to a printer. If you're not sure if you are connected to a printer, check with your instructor or system administrator. Your responses to starred activities called Reflect on it! and Action Plan, plus Practice exercises and What I've Learned: Self-Assessment in the SkillBuilding Center are all printable. In addition, you can print any other documents from the Learning Log, Resource Toolkit and Help Center using the Print button at the bottom of the screen.

How do I email my work?

Here's a brief explanation: your answers from each activity are saved in the folder you created at log in. Find that folder on your computer, open it, and you will see all the documents for each Reflect on it!, Action Plan and Practice Your New Skills exercise you completed. You can attach these documents to an email to your instructor. More detailed instructions for emailing are described in the Help Center under For Learners. You may also print out email instructions from there. If you need additional help, check with your instructor or system administrator.

How do I make changes to what I have written and saved?

If you want to change any of your answers, go back to the Learning Log or Practice Your New Skills sections of the SkillBuilding Center. You can make changes there. Be sure to click the Done button to save your changes. You may not make any changed directly to the emailable documents in your folder. Any changed you make in the program are reflected in these documents.

It says at the end of some documents that a PDF versions is available on the CD. How do I find these?

Windows users: After you quit the CD, go to My Computer and right click on the CD-ROM drive icon to open the CD.

MAC users: Click the CD icon on your desktop to open the CD.

In the open window, you’ll see the InspireWorks! PDFs folder. Open that folder to access all the PDF documents. These documents will allow you to select text to copy and paste, so you can create your own individualized training and class materials.

Function FAQs

Can I turn off the captioning subtitles in the movies and interviews?

The CC symbol in the lower left corner of the videos toggles the subtitles on and off. Just click CC to make your choice.

Can I turn the narrator off during the starred activities?

You can turn down the volume as the narrator speaks, but you will have to turn it up again to hear movies play. Look for the volume control on the video player to adjust the volume. If you read more quickly than the narrator speaks, you don't have to wait for the narration to finish. Just begin to work through the exercise whenever you're ready.

What should I do when I keep clicking on choices and nothing happens?

You may be clicking too fast for the program. A CD-ROM will not respond as quickly as your Internet browser or software installed on your computer. How quickly your computer responds depends on its speed and power. Try making one click and waiting two seconds to see if your choice appears. There is also a slight delay at the end of each movie and interview. Give the program two extra seconds after the movie finishes, and it will automatically return to the menu of choices.

Why can't I get to Educational Productions' website to learn about more training programs?

To get to the Educational Productions website, you must be connected to the Internet and you must have an Internet browser installed.

Why does this CD program appear bigger on some computers?

To view the largest display of the CD, you need to set your computer screen preferences to 800 x 600. On Macs, from the Apple Menu, go to Display in the System Preferences and choose 800 x 600. On PCs, from the Start Menu, go to Settings, Control Panels, Display, Settings and choose 800 x 600.
