For InspireWorks!
The Power of Positive Communication

InspireWorks! Your Mentor on Demand

First, review the System Requirements page to make sure that your computer meets the minimum criteria for The Power of Positive Communication to operate properly.

You can also visit our Frequently Asked Questions page to explore some common questions about using The Power of Positive Communication.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have questions or require additional assistance.

The CD doesn't start.

On a Mac, click on the InspireWorks! icon on your desktop. Then click on the InspireWorks! icon in the opened window. This should start the CD. It may take a minute for it to load. On most Windows computers, the CD should automatically start. If not, go to My Computer, find the InspireWorks! icon in the CD-ROM drive and double click. The CD should start. It will take a minute for it to load.

I can't hear any sound.

Make sure the sound is turned up on your computer. On Windows, click the Speaker icon in the Task Bar and turn up the volume slider. On MAC OS 9.2.2: Check Apple Menu, Control Panels, Sound. Turn up the system volume slider. On MAC OS 10.2.8: Check Apple Menu, System Preferences, Sound. Turn up the Volume Slider. Make sure external speakers are plugged in and turned on, and that the power button is on, and that any volume controls are turned up. If all else fails, quit the CD, eject and reinsert and restart. Sometimes your computer may just need that extra reminder to play the audio.

The movies are choppy or play very slowly.

Your computer processor speed may be too slow. If it doesn’t meet the minimum requirements, the movies will not play very well. The best solution to this is to try the CD on a different computer, with a faster processor, more RAM and a faster CD-ROM drive. The speed of your CD-ROM drive may be the culprit. If it doesn’t meet the minimum requirements of 8x speed, the movies will not play very well. You may not have enough RAM - the memory used for processing the videos. Make sure you have the minimum 128MB of RAM. Turn off all other applications while running InspireWorks! software. For MAC OS 9.2.2, turn off virtual memory in the control panels.

The CD starts, but on occasion only the audio plays; the video doesn't play.

Usually, this means QuickTime was not installed correctly or completely. The best solution is to uninstall QuickTime, then reinsert the CD and let the CD automatically install the appropriate version.

To uninstall QuickTime on Windows:

(Be sure to check with your system administrator or computer network support desk before you uninstall and reinstall QuickTime.)
Click the Start button, go to Programs, go to QuickTime, and then click on uninstall QuickTime. In the dialogue box that comes up select “Uninstall everything."
When the uninstall is finished, a box comes up: “Uninstall successfully completed.”
Reinsert the CD in your CD-ROM drive. If it doesn’t begin automatically, go to My Computer, and click on the InspireWorks! Icon on the CD-ROM drive. A box will come up: “This application requires QuickTime. Would you like to install QuickTime?” Select “Okay.” The QuickTime 6 Setup will start. Go through the installation, accepting the destination directory it suggests: “c:\ Program files\QuickTime.” Choose installation type “Recommended.” Leave the registration information blank.
The QuickTime Setup assistant will start. Uncheck all boxes in File Types Association screen. Then click “Finish.” Uncheck options for receiving information and to start up QuickTime. Then click “Close.”
At this point the CD should begin to auto load. You will see the Educational Productions and InspireWorks! logos on your computer screen.

The CD starts, goes to the log in window and lets me log in as a visitor or new user, then gives me the warning, "Illegal Operation." I can't get beyond this point in the CD.

If you have QuickTime 6.5 or above installed on your Windows 98 computer, the CD will not function properly. To check which version of QuickTime you have installed, you need to start QuickTime. Click the Start button, go to Programs, go to QuickTime, and click on QuickTime Player. In the menu above the player window, click on Help and click on About QuickTime. A box should come up which tells which version of QuickTime is installed. If it is 6.5 or later, you will need to uninstall QuickTime. See the directions above for uninstalling QuickTime on Windows.

I get a warning box telling me that, "IShell has encountered a problem and needs to close down" or "Illegal Operation."

On rare occasions, the computer cannot keep up with the input and saving of information. If you get this error message, note on your Progress Tracker where you are in the program. Then restart the CD and log in as a returning user. All your previously saved work should still be available. You can simply continue on from where you left off.
One Important Caution:
A CD-ROM will not operate as quickly as your Internet browser or software installed on your computer, nor as quickly as you think and make decisions. So, every time you click, give the CD-ROM a couple of seconds to get to the next place. If you click rapidly from place to place, you may experience difficulties.

I can't type in the answer boxes.

Sometimes it may take a while for the cursor to appear in an answer box. If this happens, wait until audio and video are done playing, then click again in the answer box. A cursor should appear and you can begin typing.
